Methods To Relieve TMJ Pain

People suffer from temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ, is treated with pain in their lower jaw on a regular basis. There are many things you can do to treat and reduce TMJ pain, which was a result of having this condition. There are dental care, drugs, home care, alternative treatments, which can be used for this purpose.

One of the first things you can try to get some relief from TMJ pain is to review the dental treatments available that could help. If you have a problem with gnashing teeth, or if your teeth are not aligned correctly, can be equipped with a device that can help realign your teeth and keep away from grinding at night, depending on the problem. Other problems can be fixed by a dentist include the bite due to not having any dental work or a filling or a crown that is too high.

While many over the counter NSAIDs such as aspirin or Tylenol are not generally used to provide relief to the pain of the TMJ, there are some medications that have been shown to help some people. These are the off-label use of some antidepressants. Some people find that Aleve medications may provide some relief.

The home treatment methods to relieve TMJ pain include trying  not to  use your jaw too much trying to keep the jaw in proper position, applying heat and cold, and the use of stretching exercises and massage. All these methods you can do on your own once you have found the right way to go about it.

Finally, there are some alternative treatments that can be used to relieve TMJ pain. They are especially good for people who gnash their teeth or jaw tighten due to stress, since they are mostly stress relief techniques. Including yoga, meditation, deep breathing, guided imagery and progressive muscle relaxation techniques. These can also be taught to interested parties to give them a try.
