The Nocturnal Bruxism



WHAT IS NOCTURNAL BRUXISM

The nocturnal bruxism is a term for teeth grinding and clenching that occurs during the sleep. It 's just like  snoring because the people who grind and clench my teeth are not aware of this activity, as snoring, which interferes with a person who sleeps next to them. Experts believe that is started by some kind of stress and anxiety, but can also be caused by an abnormal alignment of teeth.

Most people learn about this condition by partners or associates who inform them about grinding their teeth at night. It is best to consult a dentist if you know some habits that show signs of bruxism,therefore the dentist can check your teeth and jaw abnormalities and sensitivity of the jaw muscles.

While grinding of teeth does not cause major damage, injuries to the teeth can occur if not diagnosed or treated. Jaw muscles can click stop jaw and other physical injuries. There are some people who have had surgery to treat injuries of the jaw and eliminate the pain caused by prolonged grinding of teeth. Grinding can also be the onset of sleep disorders such as restless legs syndrome and multiple OSA or obstructive sleep apnea.

Experts suggest cutting the drinks that can trigger stress and anxiety, such as caffeinated beverages and alcohol. Medicines for depression and anxiety can also cause the problem and should not be taken if your doctor says your teeth clenching is caused by anxiety and stress. Even children grind their teeth, but most overcome this by the age of 9, the older they get, the smaller signs are visible.

Seek Medical Help

You should consult your dentist at first symptom of the problem. The condition can wear down your teeth and damage to the jaw if left untreated. Grinding of teeth also affects the facial muscles and earaches and headaches. If your child is grinding and clenching teeth during sleep, take your child to the dentist so you can make the correct diagnosis and a solution for the condition.

Adults are often prescribed to custom made mouth guards to stop with the lower teeth with the upper teeth grinding during sleep. If the bruxism is caused by stress, ask your doctor or dentist to relieve stress by ways other than  medicine.

For long-term solutions instruct youself to prevent clenching or grinding teeth during the day. Cut food that stress triggers such as coffee, cola and chocolate.
